November Word Challenge: Embracing the Season of Harvest
This month, weāre using the word āharvestā for our Word Challenge! Get ready to explore this seasonal word with some thoughtful questions.
Hereās what weād like you to answer:
- How many vowels are in the word āharvestā?
- How many consonants are in the word?
- How many syllables does the word have? Can you break it down by syllables?
- Is there a schwa syllable in the word? If so, where?
- What is a schwa?
- What does the word āharvestā mean? Can you explain it in your own words?
- Can you create a sentence using the word āharvestā?
Extra Challenge: Write a paragraph or short poem about what āharvestā means during the fall season. You can also include a drawing or visual representation to go along with your response!
Parents, feel free to help your child write their answers or get creative with drawings. Take a photo of their work and email it to us at admin@literacyimagined.com. Be sure to include your childās first name!

Word Challenge
Weāre excited to launch a fun monthly post where students can explore literacy concepts in creative ways!
This monthās Word Challenge is all about the word “pumpkin”āperfect for fall fun! šāØ
Using the word “pumpkin,” answer the following:
š§” How many vowels are in the word?
š§” Are the vowels making a long or short sound?
š§” How many sounds do you hear in the word?
š§” How many syllables does the word have?
š§” Whatās the difference between a pumpkin and a jack-oā-lantern?
Students can write or draw their responses on paper, a whiteboard, or use any other creative method!
Here are some fun suggestions:
š Write the word āpumpkinā and visually show the syllable division.
š Color the vowels one color and the consonants another color.
š Create drawings or other visual representations of the word.
š Or, answer the questions directly with some added flair!
š Parents, help your child get creative with their answers by including a visual element, whether itās a drawing, diagram, or design. Once complete, take a photo of their work and email it to us. Be sure to include your childās first name! š
